Just days after signing him, the Sixers were forced to cut Sonny Weems. The former CSKA Moscow star had to go in order for the team to sign Christian Wood to a second 10-day contract to depth to their frontcourt after Jahlil Okafor had season-ending surgery last week to repair a torn right meniscus.
Weems after all never had a chance to demonstrate his talent with the Sicers, he averaged 1.0 point and 1.6 rebounds and 11 minutes in seven games with the team and he was signed mainly for salary cup reasons, after he was waived by the Phoenix Suns. It remains to be seen if Weems will return to Europe for next season, or if he will try to get a third chance in the NBA.
