Eric Vila, probably the top Spanish prospect of the 1998 generation, is leaving Barcelona and has signed a letter of intent with Texas A&M University as Eurohopes.com revealed.
The young player explained his decision: “I had two dreams, stay here with FC Barcelona or live the once in a lifetime experience of play college basketball, and I must choose one. I took the chance to combine studies and basketball outside my country. That experience in a basketball country is a dream come true for me”.
Vila, a versatile power forward, explained that leaving Barcelona was not easy: “It is not. FC Barcelona made me a great offer and I spent a couple of weeks sad because I could not take both options. I’m a FC Barcelona fan and I will always be. I just tried to take the best way for me”.
Back in 2014 Vila had his first minutes of the court with the senior team of FC Barcelona, when he was just 16 years old. However he decided not to turn pro, but to play in the NCAA. This move may be a sign for things to come, since Vila will get more exposure in the States and his final goal seems to be the NBA draft.
