With Oklahoma City Thunder often being addressed as “Russell Westbrook’s team” after the departure of Kevin Durant, the former has more than lived up to this title.
After finishing the game against the Knicks with 27 points, 18 rebounds and 14 assists on Monday, 28-year-old Westbrook is averaging a triple-double so far this season! He’s currently at 30.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 11.3 assists per game.
It is to be noted that Oscar Robertson is the only player to average a triple-double during the 1963-64 season, in a very different NBA era than this one.
Westbrook reached his triple-double in just 20 minutes against the Knicks. It is his third straight, his eighth of the season, and the 45th of his career, tying him with LeBron for sixth-most in NBA history.
“Winning is sustainable,” Westbrook told ESPN. “My job is to go out and find the best way to win games. Right now, we won three straight, and that is the most important to me.”
“I don’t really care, honestly, man,” Westbrook said of his historic numbers. “I just like to win and compete at a high level, play the same way every night. I’ve been playing the same way since I got in the league, so I just do the same thing, and [I’m] grateful to be blessed and play the game I love.”
