NBA and NBPA ratify new seven-year labor CBA deal

The new NBA collective bargaining agreement has been ratified by the players and owners, as the league announced.

The NBPA (National Basketball Players Association) approved the deal on Friday, few days after the NBA Board of Governors unanimously agreed on it. The deadline to for the ratification was until January 13.

The deal have a seven-year duration, taking effect from July 1st of the next year and running through the 2023-2024 season. Yet it can be opted out after six years.

Key points of the deal include a larger percentage by revenues going to the players, new maximum salary for players with between seven and nine years experience (up to $31 million), creation of “two-way” contracts that will pay players who switch between their NBA teams and the latter’s D-League affiliates, depending on where they’re playing. Also included in the deal are new health care packages, increased benefits for current players and a shorter preseason.
