The Lithuanian basketball legend discussed, Jonas Valanciunas saying that he is not trusted sufficiently by his teammates and he’s not included enough in the system of the Toronto Raptors

“They ask from him too much,” said Marciulonis. “JV has great hands, desire and he runs the floor. What more do they want from this white guy? I don’t understand their requirements. If you want more, give him more playing time. Give him the ball and he’ll do everything. Also, they don’t understand what it means to pass the ball in Toronto. Their point guard… He probably doesn’t even know how to spell p-a-s-s. How many “s” this word has.”

Marciulonis spent nine years of his professional career in the NBA, playing for the Golden State Warriors, Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings and the Denver Nuggets which which he retired in 1997.

He was inducted in the James Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2014. He’s one of the three European players with NBA experience have been inducted to the HOF; the other two being Arvydas Sabonis and Drazen Petrovic.

When he was asked about Oklahoma City Thunder where Domantas Sabonis plays, he also voiced his disagreement with what he called as a “one-man-show”.

“It’s a One Man Show in OKC. One person thinks he’s Superman. One guy is chasing milestones and the others are playing without the ball and don’t even know how it looks like. This is not the solution. Maybe NBA wanted it? Maybe NBA wanted a new box score hero?”
