Yesterday the Spanish Basketball Federation announced the names of the preliminary squad of the national team ahead of the EuroBasket with Pau and Marc Gasol headlining the list.
Pau led the “Furia Roja” to the golden medal in the EuroBasket 2015 where he was also named tournament MVP. And he wants to give everything he has to repeat this success in September.
“Every championship tournament might be the last so you have to compete and sacrifice yourself as if it was the last indeed,” the San Antonio Spurs center said during the presentation of the Pau Gasol Academy in Barcelona, Spain. “I can say that I will do this and compete in the EuroBasket the same way I have done throughout my career. We will see if I’ll play in two years (World Cup 2019).”
“The dream is competing and winning more medals. Bringing successes for our team,” he added.
The Spanish center also talked about his contract situation with the Spurs. “I declined the option for the next season to see my options and if I can extend the contract with my current team, one of the best in the league. I spent a first season of adapting and learning and I can make a step forward.”
