Rick Pitino, head coach of Louisville’s men’s basketball team, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, as the university announced.
Louisville’s program is part of an FBI investigation regarding fraud and corruption in recruiting, that involves a top Adidas executive and four college assistant coaches.
Pitino’s attorney, Steve Pence, said that the coach is “effectively’ fired, per Louisville Courier-Journal.
Louisville Interim president Greg Postel, who announced that Pitino is placed on unpaid leave, said that “Doing nothing would be a tacit admission of criminal behavior.”
Postel also announced that Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich was placed on paid administrative leave.
