Brandon Paul describes crazy European basketball experience

Before signing with the San Antonio Spurs this summer, American swingman Brandon Paul had spent all of his professional career playing in Europe. And he carries some rather… fond memories from his overseas stint.

When asked what was the craziest experience he had while in Europe by CBS Sports, Paul remembered a moment from the 2017 EuroLeague playoffs.

“For me personally, somebody shined a laser in my eye when we played at Olympiacos. This was right before the Final Four, so this was in the playoffs. I was shooting a free throw, somebody shined a laser, the refs saw it. I got another free throw, and I think their fans, they weren’t allowed the next round to one of the games, one of the home games. So that was pretty crazy,” Paul said.

Paul talks about Game 5 of the series of Anadolu Efes, his team back then, against Olympiacos. The latter won that match and the series 3-2 to advance in the Final Four but were sanctioned with one game played behind closed doors.

The American sharpshooter certainly enjoyed his time with Efes in Turkey, where he played for most of the previous season.

” I thought the Turkish fans were really cool. They were really accepting. The people as a whole were really nice. I enjoyed my time over there. I had great teammates. The food was amazing. I lived a pretty good life over there. That was definitely one of the experiences that I appreciated.”
