San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said that he’d be “surprised” if forward Kawhi Leonard returns this season, per Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News.
“He’s still not ready to go. If by some chance he is, it’s going to be pretty late into the season and a tough decision. I’m just trying to be honest and logical. I’d be surprised if he’s back this year,” Pops added.
Leonard’s status had already been filed under “out indefinitely” due to his ongoing problems with a right quadriceps tendinopathy. It appears that these issues will most likely bar him from playing another game in 2017-2018.
The 2014 Finals MVP managed to play only nine matches this season before the Spurs decided on January 17th that they should keep him out indefinitely in order to rehabilitate fully.
Here is the Popovich comments on Kawhi. Not ready to say he’s out for the season…just would be surprised. So, there’s that … pic.twitter.com/C22ntHgbOY
