Portland assistant coach David Vanterpool is a candidate for the head coach position in Orlando Magic which got free after the dismissal of coach Frank Vogel.
According to Chris Haynes’ tweet, Magic got the permission to interview Vanterpool: “Orlando has been granted permission to interview Portland assistant David Vanterpool for its vacant head coach position, league sources tell ESPN.”
Vanterpool had a successful basketball career in Europe as a player. He won the Italian League and Italian SuperCup in 2004 with Montepaschi Siena before winning the EuroLeague championship with CSKA Moscow in 2006.
After retiring, he stayed in the Russian club as an assistant coach until moving to Portland for the current job in 2012. He also became a part of the Canada national team coaching staff in 2015.
