Carmelo Anthony reportedly won’t opt out of his Thunder contract

Carmelo Anthony will not exercise his option to become a free agent as he does not intend to opt out of his contract with Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Marc Stein of New York Times.

If Anthony lets the deadline (1st of July) pass quietly and keep his current contract in effect, it would lock in his full salary of $27.9 million but that doesn’t necessarily keep the All-Star player in Oklahoma.

After the first-round elimination to Utah, Anthony was unsatisfied with his limited role in the playoffs and emphasized he won’t accept the same treatment next season. On the other hand, the Thunder could try and trade the 34-year-old but his 2017-2018  average of 16.2 points while shooting career-worst 40.4 percent from the field could make that plan harder to carry out.
