Brad Wanamaker is finalizing a deal with the Boston Celtics to join the team in 2018-2019, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The 28-year-old American player had a lucrative offer in his hands by Barcelona but will instead join the NBA for the first in his career.
Wanamaker flirted with the NBA also last summer, before signing with then reigning EuroLeague champion Fenerbahce. Earlier this June, he led the team to the threepeat achievement in the Turkish BSL League, winning Finals MVP honors.
Over the last years, Wanamaker has been widely considered as one of the elite guards in Europe over the last years. After his breakthrough seasons from 2014 to 2016, with German club Brose Bamberg, the 28-year-old American player joined Turkish side Darussafaka Istanbul to play under coach David Blatt.
Wanamaker thrived with Darussafaka, leading the team to the EuroLeague playoffs by averaging 16.7 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game and earning All-EuroLeague Second Team honors in the process.
His performances with Dacka earned him a contract with Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce. Wanamaker posted 11.3 points, 3.8 assists in the previous season, helping Fener reach the Final. He put up 14 points, five rebounds and five assists in the title game vs. Real Madrid but Fener didn’t manage to accomplish the repeat.
