Malcolm Delaney will become an unrestricted free agent since the Atlanta Hawks will not extend a qualifying offer to him, per Michael Scotto of The Athletic.
Delaney, 29, already has an offer on his table by Turkish EuroLeague club Anadolu Efes and he’s expected to potentially attract more attention by European powerhouses. Which makes sense, considering also the experience Delaney carries in EuroLeague and EuroCup and his pedigree of competing at the top level of European basketball.
In 2015-2016, his last season in Europe before joining the Atlanta Hawks, Delaney led Lokomotiv Kuban to the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time in the history of the club. The American combo guard posted career-high numbers of 16.5 points and 5.5 assists per game plus 3.4 rebounds for 19.7 and was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in the process.
These performances earned Delaney the first NBA deal of his career, a contract with the Hawks.
During 2017-2018, Delaney averaged 6.3 points, 3 assists averaging 18.8 minutes per game over 54 matches. Delaney’s role with the Hawks was a concern for him, as he told Eurohoops near the end of the season.
The Atlanta Hawks will not tender Malcolm Delaney a qualifying offer, a league source told The Athletic. He will become an unrestricted free agent as a result. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 assists in 18.8 minutes per game while appearing in 54 games with Atlanta.
