According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, LeBron James will opt out of his Cleveland Cavaliers contract and thus will become an unrestricted free agent.
LeBron James and his decision will be the talk of the summer. The ‘King’ has many different options available, as he could re-sign with the Cavs and return to Cleveland, or take his talents in the Western Conference to join the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets, or even the San Antonio Spurs. Philadelphia’s young and upcoming stars are also an intriguing choice.
However, only one man knows the answer to the question of the off-season and it is no other than LeBron himself.
If his decision is based on an economic reason, the Cavs should be his first choice, as they can offer him a five-year, $205M deal ($41M per year) while other teams can offer four years, $152M ($38M per year).
James, 33 will enter free agency on July 1, and negotiate deals with NBA teams. From July 6, LeBron could sign a deal and announce his next destination.
The three-time NBA champion and best player in the world has not been a free agent in four years. The last time he was a free agent was in 2014, when he decided to return to the city of Ohio and play for the Cavs.
LeBron James’ agent informed the Cavs he will not exercise his $35.6 million option and thus will become an unrestricted free agent, sources told @clevelanddotcom … Story coming
