The Maverick’s legend Dirk Nowitzki has been in the NBA for 20 years and although he is a 13 times NBA All-Star and the winner of a three-point shootout, he never participated in the Slam Dunk Contest.
And it crossed the 40-year-old forward’s mind when asked if there is anything else he would like to accomplish: “I always wanted to win the slam dunk contest.”, Dirk said per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
The veteran is, of course, far from his prime and this season he will most probably come off the bench while his position might even be filled by Luka Doncic. However, Nowitzki is aware of the situation and has no problem with it:
“It’s all about winning at the end of the day. Whatever we put in the best position to win is the way we’re going to go. Bench, we better keep a bike ready and a few massage therapists in the back.”
Whether Dirk gets his chance to fulfill the dream of winning the Slam Dunk Contest, he certainly had his fair share of ‘flights’ throughout his career. Here are some of them:
