The Philadelphia 76ers won’t exercise the third year option on Furkan Korkmaz per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Turkish wing will thus become a free agent at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
Korkmaz joined the Sixers in 2017 after spending a season stashed in Europe and playing with Anadolu Efes & Banvit in Turkey. He spent a large part of his debut NBA campaign in the G-League with the Delaware 87ers and played in just 15 (14 in the regular season and once in the playoffs) games with Philadelphia.
In the 2018 Summer League, Korkmaz had some notable performances, including a 40-point game in an 89 – 95 loss to the Boston Celtics. Still, he hasn’t got much playing time so far this season, averaging 5.2 minutes per game.
“I just left my country to come here and to play here. I just want to play. Then I feel like I’m ready to play. That’s why I looking for an opportunity to play. This is my second year. I just need to play,” Korkmaz has said on the matter to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
