Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic was thrilled to see thousands of Slovenian fans in American Airlines Arena for the game between his team and Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks.
They all came to see the first NBA “duel” between Dragic and Doncic. The two Slovenian stars that led their country’s national team to the gold medal achievement in the EuroBasket 2017.
“I felt like we played in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It brings some memories back like we were playing in the [Eurobasket] Final and the whole Istanbul had Slovenian fans,” Dragic said after the 105-99 win of the Heat over the Mavs. “I really appreciate them for coming. To buy a ticket and fly from a different continent here to support us… it’s something amazing.”
“This game was different. Something more special for them. Playing against Luka in this game,” Dragic added.
Dragic also talked about the ROY-caliber debut NBA season of Luka Doncic.
“You look at his numbers and what he brings to the team. It’s unbelievable. His skillset is great. He’s really big. He can get 3-pointers, he can get inside the paint. He has great court vision. I told him to just be patient. The only thing I wish for you is to be healthy and finish the season on a good note. And next year when Kristaps Porzingis will come back it’s going to be a different season for them.”
