The Cleveland Cavaliers have requested permission to interview the Denver Nuggets assistant Jordi Fernandez for the vacant head coach position, according to Zach Lowe.
Fernandez, 36, isn’t a stranger to the Cavaliers organization. In fact, he started off in the NBA as the Cavs player development coach back in 2009 and later on became the G League’s Canton Charge head coach. He led them to a 31-19 record for two seasons and lost in the semifinals both years. He moved to the Nuggets at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Cavaliers have already been granted permission to interview another Denver assistant in Wes Unseld Jr. while there have also been reports of their interest in Zalgiris coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.
