John Beilein has agreed with the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be the organization’s next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The two sides will sign a five-year contract.
The 66-year-old American head coach is ready to take over an NBA team for the first time after a lengthy NCAA career. Beilein has been with Michigan since 2007, previously worked at West Virginia, Richmond and Canisius.
His name wasn’t included in reports on the Cavs search for Larry Drew’s successor, which primarily featured assistants of various NBA sides.
UPDATE: The Cleveland Cavaliers officially confirmed the deal.
