Juan Hernangomez went through surgery to repair a core muscle injury, the Denver Nuggets announced. The procedure was performed on Thursday at Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers. No timetable for his return to basketball activities was set, but he can still potentially suit up for Spain in the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The 23-year-old Spaniard forward is coming off his third NBA campaign. He averaged 5.8 points and 3.8 rebounds during the Regular Season, also posted 0.6 points and 0.6 rebounds per contest in five Playoffs appearances. Hernangomez was held back by his injury down the stretch of the 2018-19 season.
The 15th pick of the 2016 NBA draft is contracted for the 2019-20 season. However, he will become a restricted free agent next summer if he doesn’t ink an extension with the Nuggets during the current offseason.
