New York Knicks president Steve Mills said that Latvian forward Kristaps Porzingis threatened to return to Europe if he’s not traded, back in January.

“When he [Porzingis] walked into our office, he point-blank said to us ‘I don’t want to be here. ‘I’m not going to re-sign with the Knicks and I’m going to give you seven days to trade me, or I’m going back to Europe,” Mills said during a Fan Forum event.

Porzingis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, along with Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee. The Knicks got back DeAndre Jordan, Dennis Smith, Wesley Matthews, and two first-round picks. The Latvian forward has been sidelined for over a year now, following a torn ACL injury he suffered on January 2018.
