Seven European players were picked during the 2019 NBA draft, which took place at the Barclays Center on Thursday evening. French Sekou Doumbouya landed 15th place to lead players from the old continent at New York.
Georgian Goga Bitadze ranked 18th, Croatian Luka Samanic 19th, Lithuanian Deividas Sirvydis 37th, Serbian Alen Smailagic 39th, Lithuanian-born Ignas Brazdeikis 47th and Serbian Vanja Marinkovic rounded up the field in 60th place.
Brazdeikis who played college ball in Michigan has expressed interest of renouncing the Canadian basketball citizenship and play for Lithuania. Having said that, in total 17 non-US born players were selected in the draft with Japan’s Rui Hachimura making history for his country by being the 9th pick.
