Real Madrid seems to be in the market to replace Gustavo Ayon ahead of the 2019-20 season, but the 34-year-old big is looking ahead himself aiming to return to the NBA. “I want to go to the NBA, it’s a personal desire” he said to AS.
“I do not know if it is a goodbye” he replied to a question on his future with the Whites and revealed his intention to make his NBA comeback, before adding: “If I don’t return to the NBA, my preference would always be Madrid, but it does not depend on me anymore.”
“There are some options, but we know the conditions” Ayon noted on his NBA chances and explained: “The NBA works this way, you can not be sure for anything. I would love to have the opportunity and then value the rest of my options.”
Fresh off third ACB title, he also said: “Everyone would like to say goodbye by winning a championship. My future is up in the air. I do not know what will happen.”
The Mexican player appeared in 138 NBA games between 2011 and 2014 with the New Orleans Hornets, the Orlando Magic, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks. He since helped Real capture a couple of EuroLeague championships, three ACB titles and three Copa del Reys.
