The Toronto Raptors were planning to claim Kostas Antetokounmpo off the waivers list, but the Los Angeles Lakers beat them to it, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Dallas Mavericks previously waived his two-way contract.

According to the NBA rules, the team with the worst regular-season record has priority in claiming a player off waivers. Toronto would have priority only over the Bucks, who finished on top of the regular-season standings.

The younger brother of NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is coming off a season mostly spent in the G League with the Texas Legends.

He averaged 10.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per match. The 21-year-old Greek forward also played in two NBA games with the Mavs after being picked in 60th place of the 2018 NBA draft.
