Adding on a long list of accolades, Luka Doncic became the third NBA player to average a 30-point triple-double over the period of a calendar month, per Elias Sports. Oscar Robertson made the same mark eight times and Russell Westbrook twice.
His November outings were truly epic. The 20-year-old Slovenian went over 41 points three times including his career-highs 42 points against the San Antonio Spurs midway through the month and opposite to the Phoenix Suns on Friday evening. Displaying 31.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 10.4 assists per appearance in November got him in the three-member club.
Making adjustments
Doncic keeps on thriving, but still sees room for improvement. On Friday only sank 3/11 threes and is 8/33 in his last three games. “I got to fix that” he admitted following the 2019-20 Regular Season contest, “Get in the paint more, make layups and take less threes.”
Bouncing back
His 22 points versus the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday marked his worst scoring performance for November, was combined with a loss. “It was just one game” he mentioned, “You go to the next game and pretend like nothing happened. I’m excited for every game. That’s me.”
Playoffs
Powered by Doncic’s historic month, the Mavericks won nine out of their 14 games this month to improve to 12-6 for the season. The W-L tally is good enough for a fourth-place tie in the Western Conference. Still a long way to go in the 82-game regular season, but the reigning Rookie of the Year seems destined for postseason action in 2020.
