The New York Knicks fired David Fizdale, per press release. He is the first head coach dismissed in the 2019-20 NBA Regular Season.
The 45-year-old American was let go following the 4-18 start to the season. The NBA team fired assistant coach Keith Smart as well.
Mike Miller, 55, will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign. He joined the Knicks coaching staff this year following four seasons as the boss at the Westchester Knicks.
Per Knicks: “Today, head coach David Fizdale and assistant coach Keith Smart were relieved of their coaching duties. Assistant coach Mike Miller has been named interim head coach.”
Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr and Erik Spoelstra were among fellow head coaches criticizing the decision to fire Fizdale. “He was thrown under the bus” noted Popovich.
