The outcome was not positive for the Dallas Mavericks, but Luka Doncic set a new record for consecutive games with at least 20 points, five boards and five dimes since the ABA-NBA merger, per Elias Sports. His 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds were not enough for the win against the Sacramento Kings, but allowed him to go by Michael Jordan in the list of players with the most 20-5-5 outings in a row.
“I mean, I don’t know. It’s a lot of stats going on. I think it’s a little bit too much stats,” he mentioned following the 2019-20 NBA Regular Season contest and his 19th straight 20-5-5 performance, “You can’t compare nobody to Michael Jordan. He’s one of a kind. Those are just stats.”
Keeping calm
Doncic poured 17 out of his 27 points in the second half, but the Mavs were unable to take the lead. However, the reigning Rookie of the Year had the chance to tie the match at 108 with eight second left, but missed and his team faltering on defense allowed the Kings to seal the victory. “I should get a better shot next time” he mentioned referring to his missed opportunity.
“I am passionate for the game” he added commenting on his reaction towards the referees after his missed shot, “I want to win, and I just sometimes get out of control, because I want to win the whole time. I’m competitive. You can ask my family. Even if it’s not basketball, if it’s anything, I’m so competitive. But, yeah, I’ve got to work on that for sure.”
The Mavericks ultimately fell to 16-7 overall, 8-5 at the American Airlines Center. A couple of home games versus the Detroit Pistons and the Miami Heat follow to conclude their five-game homestand.
