Luka Doncic returned to action with a near-triple-double performance of 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 102 – 98 win over the San Antonio Spurs. Following the match, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich tipped his hat off to Doncic, comparing his court vision to none other than Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
“I hate to say this: He’s not Magic Johnson, but it’s Magic Johnson-like in the sense that he sees the floor in that same way,” Popovich said per ESPN. “He’s got a real intuitive sense, and you can’t teach that. He’s just got it and he’s great at it. I’m not trying to put the Magic Johnson pressure on him — he’s not ready for that yet — but he’s doing a hell of a job.”
Doncic had previously notched a triple-double while scoring 42 points when the Mavericks beat the Spurs back in November. The 20-year-old Slovenian player has been among the early favorites for winning MVP in his sophomore season in the league.
