Andrew Bogut via a note posted on social media informed that he will not re-sign with the Sydney Kings. The 2015 NBA champion still hopes to return, as he previously admitted that the Olympic Games moved to 2021 can keep him active for one more season.
“I have decided not to sign with the Sydney Kings or any professional sporting team for that matter for the time being,” he wrote, “With everything going on the world the future does not look too clear, most notably in regards to sporting leagues worldwide.”
At 35 and with a long history of injuries throughout his lengthy career, retirement could be on option, but Bogut is currently excluding that possibility.
“This by no means is a retirement note, but simply saying any concrete decisions are too hard to made at his point in time,” he underlined and went on explaining, “The reason I have decided to do this now is to give the Sydney Kings enough notice to act accordingly with the free agency being around the corner.”
The veteran of 783 NBA games, including 77 playoffs tilts, inked a two-year contract with NBL’s Sydney Kings back in 2018. However, last March returned to the Golden State Warriors for the bottom end of the 2018-19 season and made his way back to Australia for the 2019-20 NBL season.
“I have enjoyed being home with the family and learning more about my kids than I ever could have previously,” he added, “My body is enjoying the break after playing basketball for 19 straight months and I hope to be back out on the basketball court in the near future.”
At the international level, Bogut launched his run with Australia through the 2004 Athens Olympics. He additionally represented his country in the 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games, and in the 2006 and 2019 World Cups as well.
