The Olympic Games planned to be held this summer in Tokyo may feature an extremely strong USA squad. Approximately 60 players expressing interest were invited, including all the NBA’s big names, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat and Christian Wood of the Houston Rockets are among the bigs included in the initial player pool.
As previewed by head coach Gregg Popovich, conflicting schedules may prevent the players advancing to the 2021 NBA Finals from actually being part of the final roster. Game 7 could be played on July 22 with the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics planned to take place the next day.
The Olympic Games originally scheduled to be held last summer were pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The United States alongside Argentina, Australia, France, Iran, Japan, Nigeria, and Spain have qualified, while the remaining four spots will be awarded to the winners of the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
