While the situation has been normalizing across the world when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic, far from it that it’s left in the past and there are still some concerns going into the Tokyo Olympics as well.
The organizers have kept the numbers of covid positives public while also categorizing them depending on their role in the Olympics (athlete, media, etc.).
While there have been a total of 44 positive cases since July 1st, only one has been registered among athletes (on July 15th). July 17th was the day when the first case inside the Olympic Village was announced and it was also the day with most cases announced in total with the number soaring to 14.
Five cases were categorized as games-concerned personnel, two as media, and as many as seven coming from the Tokyo 2020 contractors.
The first case inside the Olympic Village was identified as games-concerned personnel and listed as a non-resident of Japan. The person was placed in a 14-day quarantine.
