With less than a week to go until the Tokyo Olympics, two top-ranked national teams in the world clashed in Las Vegas. The reigning Olympic champions Team USA got the better of the reigning FIBA World Cup champions Spain with 83-76 on the scoreboard.
Coach Gregg Popovich established pretty much a nine-man rotation for the game which saw the return of Jerami Grant after being sidelined due to the health and safety protocols.
Damian Lillard was leading the way with 19 points while Kevin Durant added 14 and Zach LaVine 13 points. The recent addition to Team USA in Keldon Johnson also played a crucial role with 15 points on 7-9 shooting.
On the opposing side, Ricky Rubio took over with 23 points while Willy Hernangomez and Marc Gasol scored 11 and ten respectively.
“We’re getting better with each passing day,” coach Popovich said and commented on lack of preparation. “Less is more. Reinventing the wheel is the worst thing you could do with this group.”
