The COVID pandemic remains a danger for everyone and the Italian national team is on high alert after an incident on their arrival to Japan. As “Gazzetta Dello Sport” reported an Italian journalist who arrived on Sunday at Tokyo Haneda airport, coming from Rome, tested positive for COVID after a salivary swab and is currently in a quarantined hotel where he will remain for ten days.
The case was confirmed by the Italian embassy in the Japanese capital. Ambassador Giorgio Starace specified that “the journalist had a regular negative swab when he left” and that “the person close to him was tested and did not test positive for COVID”.
However, several Italian athletes including the basketball national team, the cycling team, and swimmer Simona Quadarella, were on the same flight. So far, all their tests are negatives and they have entered Japan without a problem.
