Luka Doncic’s and Slovenia’s Olympics debuts turned to be memorable ones. The Slovenian superstar posted 48 points to lead his nation to a 118-100 win over Argentina in their first-ever appearance at the event. This performance ranks him in second place of the all-time top scorers in a single Olympic game, behind Oscar Schmidt’s record.

Schmidt had 55 points for Brazil back in 1988, while Doncic’s 48 now have him tied for second place all-time with Australia’s Eddie Palubinskas, who posted 48 points against Mexico in 1976.

Doncic also had 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks to lead the Slovenian selection in its Olympic debut, Klemen Prepelic had 22 points, Vlatko Cancar added 12, and Mike Tobey had 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Veteran Luis Scola paced the Argentinean selection with 23 points, 4 rebounds, Facu Campazzo had 21 points, Gabriel Deck added 17 points and 8 rebounds and Luca Vildoza posted 11 points.

Slovenia already got a head start in Group C, which also includes Spain and hosts Japan.
