After Australia completed the sweep of Group B in the Olympic Games, Patty Mills made it clear that becoming an NBA free agent will not evolve into a distraction for his national team moving forward.
“This is a lifetime of work in a matter of a couple of weeks. I’m making sure there are no distractions for me or my teammates,” he mentioned after Saturday’s win against Germany.
Mills, 32, will officially hit free agency in a couple of days along with the remaining NBA players on an expiring contract. He will still be in Tokyo preparing with his teammates to battle for a spot in the semifinals. The quarterfinal berth was clinched by defeating all three group stage rivals this week.
Australia will be among the four teams seeded in Sunday’s quarterfinal draw. The Boomers will be looking to advance to the Olympic Games semis for the fifth time but this time around also win a medal instead of settling for fourth place, as in 1988, 1996, 2000, and 2016.
