As Australia celebrates its first-ever Olympic medal in men’s basketball, the news about center Aron Baynes is disheartening.
Baynes sustained a neck injury last week and was forced to miss the Olympic tournament, while he was also missing from the podium today, after Australia’s win over Slovenia for the bronze medal game.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the player remains in the hospital with severe nerve damage in his neck, an injury “more significant than initially diagnosed”, that could mean he will miss the entire 2021-22 season.
