Giannis Antetokounmpo included on the Greek preliminary roster for Olympic Qualifiers

The Greek Basketball Federation announced the 18 players that are included on the preliminary roster of the national team ahead of the Olympic Games Qualifiers. Greece is hosting one of the four Qualification Tournaments in Piraeus from 2 to 7 of July.

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo headlines the list; his participation in the tournament was confirmed by Greece head coach Vassilis Spanoulis earlier in June. Panathinaikos Athens guard and recently crowned EuroLeague Final Four MVP Kostas Sloukas is also back with the team.

Olympiacos Piraeus guard Thomas Walkup is included as the team’s naturalized player while Fenerbahce Beko guard Tyler Dorsey is out. As expected, Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo is excluded following his torn Achilles injury and surgery.

A notable absence is Baskonia swingman Nikos Rogkavopoulos.

Greece will be facing the Dominican Republic and Egypt in Group B of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament of Piraeus while Croatia, New Zealand and Croatia play in Group A. The first two teams from each Group will advance to the knockout semifinal stage from which the pair of the Finals the emerge. The winner of the tournament will punch a ticket to the Olympics Games of Paris.
