EuroLeague standout center Josh Nebo officially received Slovenian citizenship and can join the national team in the upcoming Olympic Games Qualifiers.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity and feel great pride that I will be able to play for the Slovenian national team,” Nebo said per the Slovenian Basketball Federation. Mike Tobey had been announced as a member of Slovenia’s preliminary roster for the Olympic Qualifiers but Nebo could be the one to participate with the team in the Olympic Qualifiers.
“I’m looking forward to the national team events and I hope that we will be as successful as possible with the team. I promise the fans that I will do my best in every training session and game and help the national team achieve good results as much as possible.” Nebo averaged 11.2 points and 7.1 rebounds with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2023-24 EuroLeague.
Nebo will be joining the Slovenia training camp in the upcoming days as the team will be preparing for the Olympic Games Qualification Tournament that will be held in Piraeus, Greece from 2 to 7 July.
Slovenia will be facing Croatia and New Zealand in Group A of the tournament while Giannis Antetokoumpo’s Greece, Dominican Republic and Egypt will play in Group B. The top two teams from each Group will clash in the knockout semifinal stage and the winner of the Final will get the ticket to the Paris Olympics.
