Extending preparations for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico, 13 players remain available in the training camp for Italy.

Mouhamet Diouf, Sasha Grant, and Michele Vitali were the latest cuts made by head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco.

One more cut is required to shape the final 12-player roster for the senior national team of Italy in the approaching OQT.

On July 2 and 4, the team guided by Pozzecco will face Bahrain and host Puerto Rico in San Juan. The top two countries of Group B will advance from the preliminary round to the Semifinals alongside the top two of Group A, consisting of Cote d’Ivoire, Lithuania, and Mexico. Following the knockout stage, the top-ranked national team will progress to the Olympic Games, joining Serbia, South Sudan, and the United States in Group C of the preliminary stage.

Italy enjoyed silver medals in 1980 and 2004, highlighting 13 berths in the Olympics from the inaugural basketball tournament in 1936 to ranking fifth in the final standings of the 2020 Tokyo Games held in 2021.
