A few days after losing in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics, the General Manager of the Dallas Mavericks Nico Harrison came back to the series.

Talking about Luka Doncic’s performance, he called the Slovenian phenomenon a “warrior”, saying he played through multiple injuries during their NBA Playoffs run, as reported by Grant Afseth.

Considering his doubtful status ahead of this year’s 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, Nico Harrison is convinced he will commit to the national team. “That’s probably one of his biggest joys. As long as he can walk, he’s probably going to play for them. That’s my expectation”, he said.

At the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup – his last appearance for the national team – he averaged 27.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game with Aleksandar Sekulic’s team. He had 26.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per encounter at FIBA EuroBasket 2022.

However, in both tournaments, he wasn’t able to translate his individual performances into success for the Slovenian national team. He last won a medal with Slovenia at EuroBasket 2017, when he contributed to his country’s golden run.

In the meantime, Josh Nebo recently joined the training camp ahead of this summer’s FIBA OQT in Piraeus, days after acquiring Slovenian citizenship. It’s still unclear if the Maccabi Tel Aviv center will make the national team’s final roster for the event in Greece.
