The road to this year’s Olympic Games in Paris continues for Slovenia, set to participate in the upcoming FIBA OQT in Piraeus with Croatia and New Zealand in its group. They won’t have Mike Tobey on board, as he’s set to be replaced by the newest naturalized income Josh Nebo.

He was given permission to leave the training camp before tomorrow’s friendly game against Brazil. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Tobey for his extremely fair attitude and excellent work in training. Undoubtedly, he helped the Slovenian national team tremendously in these three weeks”, Aleksandar Sekulic thanked him on the Slovenian basketball federation’s website.

The former Crvena zvezda‘s center, who’s yet to find an agreement elsewhere ahead of the 2024-25 season with his future in the EuroLeague being still unclear, last officially played for Slovenia at the 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers, putting up 15.5 points and 10.5 board over two games.

Mike Tobey has been playing for the Slovenian national team for the past few years, making his debut at the 2020 FIBA OQT in Lithuania, where Luka Doncic’s team pulled the upset in Kaunas to go to Tokyo. At the Olympic Games, he averaged a double-double of 13.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
