Coach Fernandez on not having Wiggins in Paris: “It’s not in our hands”

Andrew Wiggins will not play for Team Canada at the Paris Olympics later this summer due to medical concerns, while reports from Canada present the Golden State Warriors blocking his involvement with the team.

The exact reason for his absence remains unclear, however per FIBA rules a team can prevent a player from joining the national team for medical reasons and his ankle problems are a good enough reason for him to miss the chance to represent his country in a historic basketball tournament.

Canada basketball head coach Jordi Fernandez opened his training camp having 19 players available and he commented on Wiggins’ absence on Canadian media: “I feel for him because I know he wanted to be here…. It’s a position where it’s not in our hands. We don’t like it, we respect it. And we just gotta move on.”
