Montenegro edges out Cameroon, second win for Spain and Lithuania

After losing to Brazil at the start of the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Montenegro bounced back. However, it wasn’t easy, but Bosko Radovic’s team managed to edge out Cameroon with a narrow final score of 70-66.

Marko Simonovic led the way with 18 points, while Nikola Vucevic recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Luca Bogavac scored 13, Kendrick Perry added 12, and Dino Radoncic contributed 11 points for the winning side.

Jordan Bayehe and Fabien Quentin Philibert Ateba scored 14 points apiece for Cameroon, while Brice Eyaga added 12, and Jeremiah Hill 10 points.

Top seed for Spain and the Bahamas

The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Valencia produced two national teams with a 2-0 tally after Gameday 2, including host Spain. Pulling away in the fourth quarter, the team guided by Sergio Scariolo marched to a win, 79-67, against Angola. Santi Aldama tallied 24 points and Willy Hernangomez posted a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double. For the visitors, Bruno Fernando put up a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Leading from start to finish, the Bahamas prevailed, 90-81, versus Poland and secured first place in Group B of the Valencia OQT. Deandre Ayton tallied 18 points and nine rebounds. Buddy Hield posted a 17-point, 10-assist double-double plus six rebounds and two steals. V. J. Edgecombe netted a team-high 21 points. On the losing end, Olek Balcerowski scored a game-high 12 points and Jeremy Sochan posted a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Sabonis pushes Lithuania to the next round

At San Juan, Lithuania used a solid to take down Cote d’Ivoire, 97-93. Dealing with a five-point deficit in crunch time, the team coached by Kazys Maksvytis finished with a 12-3 run to jump to 2-0 and clinch top seed in Group A.

Domantas Sabonis finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Marius Grigonis followed with 18 points. Lukas Lekavicius chipped in 13 points. Edgaras Ulanovas went for ten points, eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal. On the opposite side, Deon Thompson logged a team-high 22 points.

Host Puerto Rico blew out Bahrain, 99-56, setting up a clash with Italy for first place in Group B on Thursday. Stephen Thompson Jr. recorded a game-high 20 points and George Conditt IV added 17 points.
