Wembanyama shines as France overpowers Germany in Olympic preparations

In front of the reported 18,000 fans in Cologne, the 2023 FIBA World Cup champions, Germany, welcomed the hosts of the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, France.

In what was expected to be a brilliant and exciting clash, Victor Wembanyama dominated and led the French team to a convincing 66-90 victory.

In just over 19 minutes, the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year scored 25 points with five rebounds and three assists, on 10-16 shooting from the field, and 5-9 from beyond the arc.

His impressive performance was followed by Mathias Lessort’s 15 points, while Rudy Gobert was on the verge of a double-double with 13 points and seven rebounds. Guerschon Yabusele added 10 points for the winning side.

Dennis Schröder stood out for Germany with 23 points and was followed properly only by new Bayern Munich player, Oscar da Silva, with 15 points. Johannes Voigtmann added eight points with 11 rebounds.

The match was also marked by an altercation between Evan Fournier and Schröder, which saw the French player getting ejected.

These two sides will meet again on July 8th, but this time in Montpellier.
