Just 10 days after his last NBA Finals game, Luka Doncic donned the jersey of Slovenia in preparation for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The competition took place in Piraeus, where he led his national team out of the group with Croatia and New Zealand but couldn’t get past the hosts Greece in the semifinals.
Following the loss, the Dallas Mavericks‘ star praised Vassilis Spanoulis’ squad at the postgame press conference.
“Congrats to Greece. They were better than us, started really aggressively. They have an amazing team. Obviously, they have Giannis, but all the pieces are very important too, and they are really well-coached,” Doncic said.
He then elaborated on what makes Greece a formidable team.
“Well, first, they have Giannis, and he is a lot, but then other players like Calathes and Walkup organize the team very well. Papagiannis is there, Papanikolaou, and they are a very experienced team. They all know how to play basketball and are very well-coached by coach Spanoulis. They are a great team, and I wish them all the luck,” Luka Doncic concluded.
