France reduces roster to 12 players, heading to Olympic Games

The host of the 2024 Olympic Games, France is set on a final 12-player roster, including five active NBA players.

Elie Okobo and Theo Maledon were the two last cuts, as Gabriel Pantel-Jouve of BeBasket reported on Sunday. Ousmane Dieng, Killian Hayes, Nadir Hifi, and Jaylen Hoard previously exited the training camp. Also, Vincent Poirier was ruled out due to injury.

The French Federation of Basketball is expected to formally announce the 12-player squad on Monday.

The team coached by Vincent Collet will face Brazil, Germany, and Japan in Group B of the preliminary round. From July 27 to August 2, the three games will be played in Lille’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy. In the knockout stage, the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and medal games will be hosted in Paris’ Accor Arena between August 6 and 10.

Behind an automatic berth as the host, France will participate in the Olympic Games for the 11th time in national team history. Second place in the 2020 Games held in 2021 secured silver medals for the third time, following 1948 and 2000.

Last summer, the Bleus ranked 18th overall in the World Cup, marking their worst performance in FIBA’s flagship event.
