The Greek national team, winners of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, is now preparing for the Olympic Games.
In their first preparatory game against Puerto Rico, Vassilis Spanoulis couldn’t count on Giannis and Kostas Antetokounmpo, Nick Calathes, and Giannoulis Larentzakis, but they still managed to prevail 67-65.
It was a tough game, with Puerto Rico entering the final 10 minutes leading 48-58. However, Greece managed to turn the tables and win after Georgios Papagiannis’ free throws in the dying moments.
Dinos Mitoglou led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Papagiannis followed with 13 points, just a rebound shy of a double-double. Kostas Papanikolaou also finished in double digits with 10 points, along with five rebounds and assists.
Isaiah Pineiro led Puerto Rico with 12 points. Jose Alvarado and Chris Ortiz added 11 points each, while Ismael Romero contributed 10 points with six boards.
Greece is now set to face Serbia on July 22nd, in their final preparatory game for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
