Franz Wagner had 27 points and eight rebounds in 20:12 as Germany defeated Japan 104 – 83 almost a week from the tipoff of the Olympic Games’ basketball tournament that will see these two teams clashing again.

Dennis Schroder and Andreas Obst added 12 points apiece for a German team that overpowered Japan 56 – 31 in the first half and then simply managed that advantage to get a quite easy win.

Rui Hachimura led Japan with 19 points and five rebounds. Yuki Togashi scored 13 points.

Both Germany and Japan are included in Group B of the preliminary round of the Olympics’ tournament. They will also face France and Brazil.

The first two teams from each of the three Groups will advance to the quarterfinals and will be joined by the two best-ranked third-placed countries.
