Australia guard Dante Exum seems to be available to play in the upcoming Olympic Games after an injury scare.
“They’ve cleared him for play and Dante’s a pretty tough individual,” Australia center Jock Landale said on Exum, per NBL. “He’s definitely a key piece of the puzzle for us.”
Exum exited the friendly game between Australia and France in the second quarter with an apparent finger injury. His condition was later described to be a “concern” by Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian after the win of his team but the results didn’t show something serious.
“He suffered a compound dislocation of the right index finger in the game,” said Anna Meraes, the Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic team. “X-rays have confirmed that there was no fracture and he is expected to continue on the path to compete at the Games.”
Australia is counting a lot on Exum’s contribution on both ends of the floor as the national team is marching to the Olympics. The 29-year-old spent the previous season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 7.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds.
This will be Exum’s fifth summer tournament with the Australian national team. He was also a member of the squad that won bronze medal in the 2020 Olympics of Tokyo.
