Lille, France – There’s a long history of hate by the French fans towards Rudy Fernandez and it was obvious by the boos every time he touched the ball in the game of Spain against Greece.
However, with 5.33 left in the game, he won a standing ovation in Lille, when he needed help to leave the court after a head collision with his teammate, Juancho Hernangomez.
There was fear that this might be the last exit of Rudy from the court, since he is retiring after the Olympics, having already registered a unique record.
According to Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo, this might not be the case as he explained to the media after the game: “Rudy is doing okay. He was hit really hard, but there’s no risk of anything severe. However, we need to monitor him over the next few hours because he is questionable for the next game”.
With Spain winning over Greece and having good chances of qualification, it’s more than possible that Rudy will step on the court again.
